[Financial News] On the 13th, the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) announced plans to foster deep tech companies by launching the '2025 K-Aerospace Open Innovation.' The event is hosted by KASA and organized by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), Korea Innovation Foundation, Jinju Small and Medium-Sized Research and Development Zone (Gyeongsang National University), and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).
Open Innovation is a program that solicits technology ideas in response to corporate needs and provides support such as technology demonstration, joint development, and investment to awardees. It serves as an opportunity to discover and realize innovative technology ideas.
The '2025 K-Aerospace Open Innovation' will accept applications from the 13th until the 5th of next month. The program is open to companies wishing to collaborate with KAI in four fields designated by KAI. After document and presentation evaluations, three companies will be selected. The final winners will receive awards from the KASA Administrator, the President of the Korea Innovation Foundation, and the CEO of KAI, along with commercialization funding from KAI totaling 30 million KRW.
Selected companies will receive more than just awards. They will be matched with dedicated KAI business departments and considered for strategic investment. Additional support includes linkage to Korea Innovation Foundation’s special zone development projects and funds, preferential selection as a KARI family company with technical support, and management consulting and participation in the SME Meet-up Program by the Jinju Small and Medium-Sized Research and Development Zone (Gyeongsang National University). These initiatives offer various opportunities for further growth.
Furthermore, KASA will invite the selected companies to global networking and international events hosted by KASA, and support their participation in overseas accelerator programs and other related initiatives from different ministries to help them enter foreign markets.
No Gyeongwon, Deputy Administrator of KASA, stated, “This project is significant as it is the first open innovation initiative in the space and aviation sector based on private sector demand, aiming to drive technological innovation and broaden participation. The space, aviation, and AI sectors are strategic fields that can pioneer new areas and achieve growth by leveraging advanced technologies from other industries. We will continue to strategically discover and nurture promising deep tech companies through ongoing open innovation, and actively lead the creation of an innovation ecosystem.”
