KOSPI Closes Above 3,610 as Foreign Investors Buy Semiconductor Stocks

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) closed above the 3,600 mark, boosted by net buying of large-cap semiconductor stocks by foreign investors, with gains accelerating in the latter part of the session.
According to the Korea Exchange (KRX) on the 10th, the KOSPI finished trading at 3,610.60, up 61.39 points (1.73%) from the previous session. After opening at 3,598.11, a 1.38% increase, the KOSPI quickly surpassed 3,600, reaching as high as 3,617.86 before paring gains, but rebounded again late in the session.
In the KOSPI Market, foreign investors recorded a net purchase of 950.1 billion won, while individuals and institutions sold a net 361.7 billion won and 635.6 billion won, respectively.
By sector, machinery and equipment (9.65%), electrical/electronics (4.78%), and IT services (3.02%) showed strong performance, while transportation equipment and parts (-2.18%), transportation and warehousing (-1.77%), and metals (-1.22%) declined.
Among large-cap stocks, Doosan Enerbility (15.74%), SK hynix (8.09%), and Samsung Electronics (5.96%) posted significant gains, while LG Energy Solution (-9.90%), Hanwha Aerospace (-5.01%), and KB Financial Group (-3.08%) declined.
On the same day, the Korean Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (KOSDAQ) closed at 859.49, up 5.24 points (0.61%) from the previous session. Foreign investors bought a net 209.5 billion won, while individuals and institutions sold a net 102 billion won and 80.1 billion won, respectively.
Jungeun Lim, a researcher at KB Securities, stated, "Domestic semiconductor stocks continued their rally, buoyed by positive news during the holiday period, such as the strategic collaboration between OpenAI and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Nvidia receiving export approval to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Foreign investors led the index higher by net buying 850 billion won in the electrical and electronics sector."
