[Financial News] Approximately 400 million won has been collected from a nursing home operated by the family of Kim Keon Hee, which had made improper claims for long-term care benefits totaling 1.4 billion won.
According to data received by Nam In-soon of the Health and Welfare Committee from the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) on the 2nd, the NHIS collected 377 million won between July and September this year from the 1.44 billion won in illicit gains by A Nursing Home in Namyangju, operated by the family of former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s wife, Kim Keon Hee. The collection was processed through electronic offsetting by deducting the amount from the monthly benefit claims.
However, as Namyangju recently imposed a 104-day business suspension on A Nursing Home, the offsetting process is expected to become difficult once the suspension takes effect on the 27th of this month. The NHIS explained that it will promptly recover the remaining unpaid amount through cash notices and securing bonds.
The nursing home requested a suspension of the collection, but the court reportedly dismissed the request. The court cited the fact that the family business, represented by Kim Keon Hee’s brother, had undistributed retained earnings of 3.5 billion won last year, and that his tangible assets were valued at 5.5 billion won.
An NHIS investigation found that A Nursing Home had improperly received 1.44 billion won between 2018 and 2025 by inflating employee working hours and other methods.
