[Financial News] Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho criticized former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his team for complaining about the hardships of detention, calling their attitude "brazen and shameless."
On the 1st, Minister Jeong stated on Facebook, "Former President Yoon and his lawyers continue to repeat the absurd claim that his human rights are being violated while in detention."
Minister Jeong remarked, "Former President Yoon appeared in court and claimed that 'survival' in the detention cell is difficult, while his legal team nitpicked the meals provided at the detention center, complaining about the food. It is truly brazen and shameless to wonder if they will soon demand a two-room cell or even the installation of a delivery app."
He further emphasized, "Former President Yoon should not forget that he is currently detained in a detention center on charges of attempting to overthrow the Republic of Korea. This is not a hotel stay."
He added, "Except for cases requiring special management, the treatment of former President Yoon is strictly the same as that of other inmates. There should be no expectation of the kind of secret and unjust privileges that occurred during the first detention."
He also stated, "All of this is the result of the defendant himself abandoning the dignity of a former president and mocking the judicial system with legal tricks and agitation without remorse. Just as all citizens are equal, so too must all detainees be treated equally within the detention center."
Previously, on the 26th of last month, former President Yoon stated during a bail hearing presided over by Judge Baek Daehyeon of Criminal Division 35, Seoul Central District Court, that "it was difficult to survive in a 1.8-pyeong cell after being detained."
Additionally, Gye-ri Kim, a lawyer representing former President Yoon, explained in a YouTube video that it was difficult for Yoon to attend court, stating, "He could not have a proper breakfast and had to eat cup noodles and hardtack for lunch."
