The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) announced on the 1st that it is continuously monitoring the dissemination of false information about the NIRS fire on major online communities and social networking services (SNS).
Recently, the NIRS fire has caused disruptions to key national systems, leading to the rapid spread of various rumors. Some YouTubers have been found to exploit these rumors for commercial gain by quoting, amplifying, and reproducing them. One of the most prominent examples is the spread of false information regarding Visa-free Entry for Chinese Nationals, such as claims that high-risk Chinese individuals could enter the country due to the fire.
A police official stated, “To prevent unnecessary social conflict and to protect the public from anxiety and confusion, we will strictly investigate any malicious distortion of facts or dissemination of false information in accordance with the law and established principles.”
