[Financial News] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Department (Gongsucheo) is expected to normalize as early as November by completing the recruitment of vacant investigative civil servants.
Kim Baek-gi, spokesperson for Gongsucheo, said at a regular media briefing held at the Gwacheon Government Complex in Gyeonggi Province on the morning of the 23rd, "We conducted interviews on the 17th to recruit new prosecutors for the vacancies, and we will hold a personnel committee at the end of this month to select recommended candidates," adding, "The recruitment of new investigators will also close document submissions around this week, and if things go as expected, it will be completed by November."
The fixed number of investigative civil servants at Gongsucheo is 25 prosecutors (including the chief and deputy chief) and 40 investigators. Currently, there are 21 prosecutors and 38 investigators working at Gongsucheo. There are 4 prosecutor vacancies and 2 investigator vacancies.
Meanwhile, spokesperson Kim answered a reporter's question about whether there are any internal discussions regarding 'prosecutorial reform' by saying, "Since reforms or bills regarding the overall judicial system are being promoted, we are expressing opinions in line with the situation if there is any."
Gongsucheo is currently investigating allegations of preferential hiring of the children of former Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jeong, hospitality allegations against Ji Gui-yeon, a judge at the Seoul Central District Court, and targeted audit allegations against Jeon Hyun-hee, former chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (currently a member of the Democratic Party of Korea). Regarding the targeted audit allegations, a recent attendance notice was sent to Choi Jae-hae, the chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection.
