National Police Agency Holds 4th International Anti-Terrorism Symposium

[Financial News] Domestic and international anti-terrorism experts shared their capabilities in responding to terrorism and discussed cooperation measures.
The National Police Agency announced on the 23rd that it held the 4th International Anti-Terrorism Symposium.
The symposium was held as a joint event involving the public, private, and military sectors, with participation from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Military Academy, and others. Participants included high-level officials from domestic and international related organizations, university professors, military and security officials, and about 200 anti-terrorism stakeholders, including Seungchan Bang, Director of ETRI, Sohyeong Ki, Principal of the Korea Military Academy, Manjong Lee, President of the Korean Terrorism Research Association, Sangbae Kim, Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University, and Daniel Nurt, Doctor at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Experts discussed the latest trends and key issues under the theme of 'Future Anti-Terrorism Strategies Based on Advanced Science and Technology', including △Establishing an AI-based early warning system for terrorism △Scientific and technological responses to weapons of mass destruction (WMD) such as chemical and biological weapons △Integrated response measures to unconventional terrorist means such as drones.
About 20 participants, including representatives from major government departments such as the National Police Agency and the Ministry of National Defense, academic and private sector experts, and experts from the OPCW, participated as discussants.
Yoo Jae-seong, Acting Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated, "It is essential to establish an intelligent and proactive anti-terrorism response system utilizing advanced technologies such as AI and big data," and added, "We will strengthen the police's anti-terrorism capabilities and strive to successfully and safely host the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit."
