[Financial News] The National Assembly's Special Committee on Supporting the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit approved the '2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit Successful Hosting and National Assembly Resolution for Peace and Prosperity on the Korean Peninsula' on the 22nd.
The resolution was prepared through consultations between Speaker Woo Won-sik's proposal on the 1st of last month, APEC special committee members from both ruling and opposition parties, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' APEC Planning Team. It includes support for hosting the APEC Summit and gathering international consensus on peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
Lee Man-hee, a member of the APEC special committee from the People Power Party, explained the proposal at the plenary meeting, stating, "The successful hosting of the APEC Summit will elevate Korea's national prestige and significantly contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula and joint prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. We resolve to mobilize national capabilities with the National Assembly, government, local governments, and the public to provide all necessary support."
He added, "We will declare our firm commitment to peace on the Korean Peninsula and stability in Northeast Asia to the leaders of each country, highlighting Korea as an attractive and reliable investment destination, opening new paths for trade and exchange. At the same time, through cultural content capabilities, including K-culture, we will imprint Korea as a cultural powerhouse that the world pays attention to, and resolve to enhance the nation's status through cultural exchange and cooperation."
Adding content on peace on the Korean Peninsula during the APEC Summit was led by the Democratic Party. Speaker Woo, from the Democratic Party, mentioned peace on the Korean Peninsula when officially proposing the resolution, and Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheong-rae also announced the push for a resolution to draw national consensus and international cooperation on peace on the Korean Peninsula at the 7th anniversary ceremony of the September 19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration.
The resolution passed the special committee's threshold and was submitted to the National Assembly plenary session.
