[Financial News] Kim Keon-hee, the first former first lady to be indicted, will have her appearance in the defendant's seat revealed in court.
The Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Division 27 (Chief Judge Woo In-seong) announced on the 22nd that it has approved the media's request to film Kim's first trial scheduled for 2:10 PM on the 24th.
According to the Supreme Court's rules on courtroom attendance and filming, filming is limited to before the start of the trial. Filming from the bench or causing disturbances through filming is prohibited.
The rule stipulates that the presiding judge may approve a request for internal courtroom filming if the defendant consents. However, even without the defendant's consent, filming may be allowed if deemed significantly in the public interest.
Previously, the Kim Keon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Joong-gi Special Prosecutor) indicted Kim on the 29th of last month. The charges against Kim include △Violation of the Capital Markets Act (Deutsche Motors stock manipulation allegations) △Violation of the Political Funds Act (Myung Tae-kyun nomination involvement allegations) △Breach of trust under the Special Act (Geonjin Monk bribery allegations), among others.
Kim is accused of participating as a financier in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case that occurred between 2009 and 2012. The special prosecutor team believes Kim conspired with former Deutsche Motors Chairman Kwon Oh-soo and former Black Pearl Invest CEO Lee Jong-ho to gain approximately 8.1 billion won in illicit profits.
During the 2022 presidential election, she is also accused of receiving 58 survey results for free from 'political broker' Myung Tae-kyun and influencing the nomination of former National Assembly member Kim Young-sun, who is close to Myung, in the same year's by-election.
Additionally, from April to August 2022, she allegedly received requests for current issue support from former Unification Church World Headquarters Director Yoon Young-ho through Geonjin Monk Jeon Seong-bae and received goods worth 80 million won, including an expensive diamond necklace.
