[Financial News]  The special prosecutor team led by Jo Eun-seok, investigating the rebellion and foreign exchange case, summoned former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jeong as a suspect and investigated him for more than 17 and a half hours.
On the 21st, former Chief Shim appeared at the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office at around 10 a.m., and after reviewing the records, he was investigated for about 17 hours and 36 minutes and left the office at around 3:36 a.m. on the 22nd. It took more than 5 hours and 30 minutes just to review the records.
After the investigation, former Chief Shim came out to the main entrance and left the office without answering any questions such as 'Do you regret the decision not to appeal immediately against former President Yoon Seok-yeol?', 'What is your stance on the suspicion that you were instructed by former Minister Park Sung-jae to dispatch prosecutors to the joint investigation headquarters?', and 'Please reveal your thoughts'.
Previously, the ruling party and civic groups accused former Chief Shim of abuse of authority and neglect of duty for not appealing immediately against the cancellation of former President Yoon's detention in March. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) transferred the case to the special prosecutor when it was launched in June.
Former President Yoon, who was indicted on charges of being the leader of the rebellion, requested the cancellation of his detention, claiming that the prosecution's indictment was made after the detention period expired, and the court accepted it.
At that time, the investigation team suggested that the court's decision to cancel the detention should be appealed immediately to get a higher court's judgment. However, former Chief Shim, after going through the Supreme Prosecutors' Office meeting, decided not to appeal immediately considering the possibility of unconstitutionality and directed the release of former President Yoon.
The special prosecutor team reportedly confirmed the facts regarding the suspicion of prosecutor dispatch during martial law against former Chief Shim on that day.
Former Minister Park is under suspicion of having instructed at a Ministry of Justice executive meeting right after the declaration of martial law to 'consider dispatching prosecutors to the joint investigation headquarters'.
Former Minister Park and former Chief Shim had three phone calls from 11 p.m. on December 3 last year until the early hours of the next day. The special prosecutor team is looking into the possibility that instructions for prosecutor dispatch were exchanged during these calls.
There is also suspicion that a prosecutor belonging to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office contacted the Defense Security Command and then went to the National Election Commission during martial law.
The police reportedly secured statements during the investigation of Defense Security Command agents that 'after the declaration of martial law, they received orders that the prosecution and the National Intelligence Service would soon go to the National Election Commission and to support them'.
