[Financial News]  A son who tried to murder his mother with a weapon after resenting her for being scammed because of her and then hearing nagging has been sentenced to prison.
Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Park Dong-kyu) announced on the 21st that it sentenced Mr. A, in his 40s, to 4 years and 6 months in prison for attempted parricide. Mr. A was indicted for attempting to murder his mother in her 60s by stabbing her with a weapon while cursing at her in their Ulsan home in February this year.
At that time, Mr. A asked his mother to "set the table for drinks," but after hearing nagging, he became angry and committed the crime.
Nine years ago, Mr. A invested approximately 200 million won, which he had saved while working, in real estate through his mother, but was scammed. Subsequently, he became addicted to online gambling and, after being fired from his job last year due to gambling issues, he frequently drank at home.
Mr. A often resented his mother and, when nagged, would often assault her or cause disturbances while drunk, even wielding a weapon.
At the time, the mother was stabbed in the abdomen but did not immediately go to the hospital to hide her son's crime. After two days, as her condition worsened, she was taken to the hospital via 119 and underwent emergency surgery.
The court stated, "The victim suffered serious injuries and aftereffects," but "considered the fact that the defendant admitted to all the crimes, acted impulsively, and did not make additional attacks" in determining the sentence.
