[Financial News] It was belatedly revealed that a couple of police officers in their 30s from Seobu and Eunpyeong Police Stations in Seoul discovered a drunk driver at a restaurant on their day off and pursued him until apprehension.
According to the Seobu Police Station on the 19th, the police couple, who were dining at a restaurant in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, last month on the 26th, spotted Mr. A (in his 60s) getting into the driver's seat while intoxicated. Mr. A immediately drove out of the parking lot.
Upon witnessing this, the couple immediately reported it to the police and pursued Mr. A in their private vehicle. While sharing the movement route with the dispatched officers, Mr. A stopped at a nearby cafe parking lot, and the couple blocked the entrance with their vehicle to prevent escape. They then confirmed the intoxication of Mr. A, who got out of the driver's seat, and handed him over to the arriving officers.
The breathalyzer test showed Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.038%, which is at the level for license suspension.
The Seobu Police Station stated, "The couple demonstrated their responsibility as police officers even while off duty, ensuring citizen safety," and emphasized, "Drunk driving must be recognized as something that will be caught anytime, anywhere."
