[Financial News] Prosecutors have sought a 5-year prison sentence for a man in his 20s who was indicted without detention on charges of having carnal knowledge of a minor he met on a chatting app and handing over cigarettes in return (statutory quasi-rape of a minor).
According to the legal community on the 19th, the prosecution requested a 5-year prison sentence along with a request for disclosure of personal information and employment restriction orders at the final trial of Mr. A, a man in his 20s, held in the Criminal Division 2 of the Jeju District Court (Chief Judge Lim Jae-nam) the previous day.
Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of engaging in quasi-sexual acts and carnal knowledge twice with a minor victim he met through a chatting app in September and October last year by taking the victim into his car. Mr. A handed over 10 packs of cigarettes and an e-cigarette in return.
The prosecution explained the reason for the sentence request, stating that Mr. A has not yet been forgiven by the victim, and the victim's family is pleading for severe punishment.
Mr. A's side admitted all the charges but appealed for leniency, saying, "We are currently making efforts to reach an agreement, such as delivering letters, and have deposited 10 million won as a criminal deposit."
Mr. A said, "I am sorry to the victim and their family who were hurt by my rash actions," and "I will live with deep reflection and atonement."
