[Financial News] Kim Geon-hee's special prosecutor team (Min Jung-gi special prosecutor) raided the company managing the People's Power party member database (DB) on the 18th and confirmed a list of over 100,000 suspected Unification Church members.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the special prosecutor team executed a search and seizure warrant on the party member DB management company near the People's Power Central Party in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at 5:35 PM the previous day. The raid lasted about 4 hours and 30 minutes until around 10:05 PM.
The special prosecutor team compared and contrasted the list of 1.2 million Unification Church members obtained during the Unification Church raid with the list of approximately 5 million People's Power party members, extracting a common list of about 110,000 people.
However, it has not been confirmed how many responsible party members with voting rights in the national convention are included. The number of responsible party members of the People's Power is known to be about 740,000.
The number of new members who joined before the 2023 March national convention, which the special prosecutor team suspects the Unification Church members collectively joined as party members, is also expected to be a key issue.
Regarding this raid, the People's Power stated, "The special prosecutor seized the list of Unification Church members related to the crime facts stated in the search and seizure warrant (excluding resident registration numbers and account information)," but also said, "It is difficult to disclose specific numbers."
However, there is also a claim that the number of new members who joined between October 2022 and March the following year, and between January and April last year, which is the scope of the warrant execution agreed upon by the special prosecutor team and the People's Power, is 160,000, and among them, only 3,500 are Unification Church members.
It is known that Jang Dong-hyuk, the representative of the People's Power, will announce a statement regarding the special prosecutor team's raid this morning.
The special prosecutor team is investigating the suspicion that the Unification Church mobilized its members to join en masse to support Kwon Seong-dong as the party representative ahead of the People's Power national convention at that time.
In addition, they are also looking into the suspicion that district leaders responsible for each region of the Unification Church received support funds at the church level and delivered illegal political funds to the People's Power ahead of the 2022 presidential election.
