[Financial News] The police conducted an anti-terrorism drill in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held at the end of next month.
The National Police Agency announced on the 18th that it conducted the second 'Domestic General Anti-Terrorism Incident Headquarters Drill'.
This is the second government agency anti-terrorism response drill following the first drill in August last year. The first drill involved a command headquarters exercise with participation from high-level decision-making groups from central ministries and was linked to actual field response training.
This drill assumed a complex terrorist attack at the conference hall on Yeongjong Island, Incheon, where the APEC ministerial meeting will be held.
The drill involved simulating a drone bomb attack on foreign vehicles arriving at the APEC conference hall, followed by a chemical attack on evacuating crowds to check the response to a complex terrorist situation.
On-site, the Incheon Police Chief acted as the on-site command headquarters chief, with participation from 10 organizations including Yeongjong Fire Station, 119 Special Response Team, Siheung Chemical Disaster Joint Prevention Center, and the military CBRN battalion, involving 200 personnel in actual training for △situation assessment and dissemination △site control △emergency evacuation △rescue operations.
The National Police Agency held a 'Terrorism Incident Headquarters Meeting' presided over by the acting Commissioner General to review the on-site response situation of related organizations and discuss follow-up measures.
The National Police Agency's headquarters includes 37 director-level officials from 9 central ministries. The government agencies integrate their response by discussing situation assessment and countermeasures through a video communication network connected to the on-site command headquarters.
Yoo Jae-seong, acting Commissioner General who presided over the drill, said, "Protecting the safety of the people is the reason for the police's existence," and "related organizations will cooperate closely to respond effectively to terrorism."
