[Financial News] In Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, a white Benz SUV owner was spotted attaching a Rising Sun Flag to the vehicle after parking, causing controversy. Online, past problematic behavior is being mentioned, and public outrage continues.
On the 18th, a photo of a Benz with a Rising Sun Flag taken in Gimcheon was posted on the car community 'Bobae Dream' Instagram. The informant said, "After parking, she got out of the car and attached that," adding, "She looks like the woman I saw in the news a few years ago, and I hope the law banning the Rising Sun Flag passes quickly."
The Rising Sun Flag was a military flag symbolizing Japanese militarism during World War II, used by the Japanese army and navy during the Pacific War and invasions of Asian countries.
According to the 'Seoul Metropolitan City Ordinance on the Restriction of Use of Symbols of Japanese Imperialism,' military flags and sculptures symbolizing Japanese imperialism, such as the Rising Sun Flag, or symbols used to evoke such images, cannot be displayed or sold in public places. However, the ordinance has limitations due to its weak legal binding force.
In the National Assembly, a law to penalize the use of the Rising Sun Flag (a partial amendment to the Criminal Act) was proposed last year. According to the amendment, those who manufacture, distribute, use, wear, or post items containing the Rising Sun Flag in crowded public places may face up to 2 years in prison or a fine of up to 5 million won.
The Benz owner in this incident was also known for retaliatory driving against citizens and blocking garbage collection vehicles with illegal parking in an apartment, causing controversy. Additionally, there is a record of reporting a citizen who removed a Rising Sun Flag sticker.
