[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung held a meeting under the theme 'Opportunities and Hope for Youth, Unfolding in K-Agriculture!' at a farm in Sejong City on the afternoon of the 16th, and listened to the voices of young farmers, according to Deputy Spokesperson Ahn Gui-ryeong of the Presidential Office in a written briefing.
Before the meeting, President Lee toured a peach farm guided by the farm representative and participated in the pruning work being conducted after the peach harvest.
The farm representative explained that pruning is an essential task for a bountiful harvest next year, and President Lee responded by saying that just as we prepare for next year's harvest, we will not spare investment and support for young farmers for a bright future in our agriculture and rural areas.
Eight young farmers cultivating various crops such as vegetables, fruits, and flowers attended the meeting.
President Lee inquired about the prices of chili peppers and apple watermelons, and continued the conversation while sharing drinks made from green tangerines cultivated by young farmers.
A young flower farmer expressed the ambition to lead our agriculture, saying that the countryside must become a vibrant space again.
A young beekeeper showed affection for agriculture, saying, "Even now, bees are so beautiful," but also appealed that it is true there are limitations and difficulties for young people to settle in rural areas.
The young farmers proposed specific policies to achieve tangible results, such as allowing the installation of toilets on farmland, improving living conditions, providing settlement support funds, leasing farmland, strengthening farmer standards, fostering successor farmers, and supporting research and development.
In response, President Lee emphasized that agriculture and rural areas are not symbols of decline but new hope, and that government policies should also move towards increasing investment and support for agriculture and rural areas.
Furthermore, President Lee promised to support young farmers to overcome difficulties and grow as key players in K-Agriculture, stating that it is the role of the people's sovereignty government to support young people to have opportunities regardless of field and region.
