Tsutsugamushi Increase in Patients During Autumn Outdoor Activities
Wear Long Sleeves, Long Pants and Use Tick Repellent

【Financial News Ulsan=Choi Susang Reporter】 Ulsan Uljugun Health Center urged special caution against tick-borne infectious diseases as autumn arrives.
Autumn tick-borne infectious diseases include SFTS (Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome), Tsutsugamushi disease, and Lyme disease.
SFTS is transmitted by being bitten by a small tick carrying the virus. When infected, symptoms such as high fever over 38 degrees, vomiting, and diarrhea appear.
In particular, the fatality rate is very high at 18.5%, and there is currently no special treatment or preventive vaccine. In Uljugun, the number of confirmed cases increased from 1 last year to 5 this year, requiring special attention.
Another infectious disease, Tsutsugamushi disease, occurs when bitten by a larval mite infected with Tsutsugamushi bacteria. After an incubation period of 1-3 weeks, sudden high fever, chills, and muscle pain are accompanied by severe pain. Last year, 107 out of 115 confirmed cases of Tsutsugamushi disease (93%) occurred after September, requiring caution during the autumn season when outdoor activities increase.
An official from the Uljugun Health Center said, "It is important to follow tick prevention rules such as wearing long sleeves, long pants, using tick repellent, and showering and washing clothes immediately after going out," and "If symptoms such as high fever of 38-40 degrees, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea occur within 2 weeks after contact with grass, you should immediately seek medical attention."
