Contract to Supply 14 Eco-Friendly High-Voltage Circuit Breakers to Finnish EPC Specialist
[Financial News] HD Hyundai Electric is accelerating its efforts to penetrate the European market by signing a contract to supply eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breakers in Northern Europe, Finland.
HD Hyundai Electric, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai specializing in power equipment and energy solutions, recently announced on the 16th that it has signed a supply contract for 14 units of 145kV SF6-Free high-voltage circuit breakers with a Finnish engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) specialist. This contract marks the second order following Sweden last May.
The 145kV SF6-Free high-voltage circuit breaker is an eco-friendly product that does not use sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), which has a global warming potential 23,500 times that of carbon dioxide, and is the first of its kind developed independently by HD Hyundai Electric in Korea.
Circuit breakers are essential power devices that quickly cut off current to protect equipment and human life when accidents or abnormal currents occur in the power system. Due to the recent increase in global power demand, investments in transmission and distribution networks are expanding, and the demand for circuit breakers, along with transformers, is steadily increasing.
The outlook for the domestic and international eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breaker market is also bright. In Europe, due to the strengthening of international eco-friendly regulations and the expansion of renewable energy policies, the demand for eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breakers is spreading. In Korea, Korea Electric Power Corporation has also switched to 170kV SF6-Free high-voltage circuit breakers for new substations starting this year.
This year, HD Hyundai Electric signed a large-scale supply contract for 345kV high-voltage circuit breakers to be delivered to a large data center in the United States, expanding its presence in the North American ultra-high-voltage circuit breaker market. The company is also conducting performance verification of 420kV eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breakers, targeting certification tests in the first half of 2026.
An HD Hyundai Electric representative stated, "Thanks to the favorable market environment, sales and order backlogs in the high-voltage circuit breaker sector are increasing," adding, "We will continue to stabilize the high-voltage circuit breaker business in existing markets such as the Middle East and the United States while intensifying our efforts in the eco-friendly high-voltage circuit breaker market centered on Europe."
