According to the legal community on the 15th, the special prosecutor's team conducted a search and seizure at the former minister's home located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, this morning. It is reported that the warrant specified charges of general treason and abuse of power.
Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young stated at a briefing at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, this afternoon that "it is related to foreign exchange allegations."
The special prosecutor's team suspects that the Pyongyang drone infiltration operation conducted by the Ministry of National Defense's Drone Operations Command in October-November last year was carried out to build justification for the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3. In particular, former Minister Kim is suspected of being involved in the operation, even though it was not his duty, from June last year when he was the Chief of Presidential Security, and of forcibly carrying out the drone operation to create military tension after his appointment as Minister of National Defense in September last year.
The special prosecutor's team reportedly re-secured the former minister's mobile phone and hard disk, which had been previously seized. Former Minister Kim was subjected to two searches and seizures by the police and prosecutors in December last year.
Special Prosecutor Park stated, "A lot of evidence was collected before, and there are duplicates," adding, "There are additional parts that were seized because the criminal facts have changed."
