[Financial News] The Supreme Court hearing of the divorce lawsuit between Choi Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group (65), and Noh So-young, Director of Art Center Nabi (64), which has been ongoing for over a year, is drawing attention to whether it will conclude soon. There is a possibility that discussions will be held this week in the full bench of the Supreme Court.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the Seoul High Court's appeal hearing ruled in May last year that Chairman Choi should pay Director Noh 1.3808 trillion won in property division and 2 billion won in alimony. SK shares were excluded from the division. In the second trial, the issue of whether the slush fund of about 30 billion won from former President Roh had any impact on the formation of the property emerged as a point of contention.
Since the case was filed with the Supreme Court in July last year, the appeal trial has been conducted, and it has been reported that the case was handled as a full bench report case, with all justices reviewing it. However, not all reported cases are referred to the full bench or lead to a verdict. The full bench hearing is scheduled for the 18th.
The core of the lawsuit is the scope of property division and whether it is 'special property.' In the second trial, the contributions of Chairman Choi's father, Choi Jong-hyun, and Director Noh's contributions, as well as whether there was financial support from former President Roh, were all considered. Both sides continue to present related evidence in the appeal trial, continuing the legal battle. Depending on the Supreme Court's final judgment, it will be decided whether the second trial's ruling will be upheld or partially adjusted.
A Supreme Court official said, "It is customary to decide on full bench cases ten days in advance, but nothing has been mentioned so far."
