Special Prosecutor "Geonjin Beopsa Proposed 'Unification Church Contact' to Kim Geon-hee"

[Financial News] The special prosecutor team for Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi special prosecutor) defined that Jeon Seong-bae, known as Geonjin Beopsa, who is under suspicion of solicitation, formed a relationship with the Unification Church instead of Mrs. Kim.
According to the 22-page indictment of Mr. Jeon obtained by Financial News on the 14th, Mr. Jeon shared the perception with Mrs. Kim that a symbiotic relationship with the Unification Church should be formed after former President Yoon Seok-yeol was elected in the 20th presidential election.
They believed that the Unification Church played a significant role in the election of former President Yoon during the presidential election process, so Mr. Jeon decided to maintain the relationship by contacting the Unification Church on behalf of Mrs. Kim. Later, on March 30, 2022, Mrs. Kim called Yoon Young-ho, the former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters, saying, "Mr. Jeon told me to call," and "Thank you for helping with the presidential election, and please share your opinions with Mr. Jeon in the future. Please help a lot." Mr. Jeon also conveyed the content of the call between Mrs. Kim and former Director Yoon to the Unification Church, emphasizing, "I will repay the favor. I am responsible for the Unification Church."
The special prosecutor team suspected that Mr. Jeon delivered a Chanel bag and Cheonsu Sam Concentrate Tea received from former Director Yoon, who was approved by Han Hak-ja, the president of the Unification Church, to Mrs. Kim on April 7, 2022. Subsequently, Mr. Jeon proposed to Mrs. Kim to secretly contact the Unification Church and conveyed the Unification Church's pending solicitation issues, such as hosting the UN 5th Secretariat in Korea, via text message. The special prosecutor specified that Mr. Jeon received a total of 82.93 million won in this process.
It was revealed that Mr. Jeon highlighted his friendship with former President Yoon. When demanding a consulting position worth 50 million won annually from the Unification Church, Mr. Jeon said, "I have known former President Yoon well since he was in the prosecution," and "I know many famous figures, including Mrs. Kim. The Unification Church will not have any legal issues with the prosecution in the future."
There were also circumstances where Mr. Jeon attempted to resolve judicial risks for various companies. The special prosecutor team captured the situation where Mr. Jeon received a request from A, the spouse of the representative of Heerim Architects & Planners, "Please prevent a tax investigation on the company where my husband works," and said, "I will introduce a powerful person who can prevent the tax investigation." Later, at a hotel restaurant located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Mr. Jeon arranged a meeting with A, Yoon Han-hong, a member of the People Power Party known as 'Yoon Haek-gwan' (a key associate of former President Yoon Seok-yeol), and Kim Chang-ki, then Commissioner of the National Tax Service. Subsequently, Mr. Jeon received requests from A, such as △arranging the appointment of an acquaintance as a newspaper president △resolving the Seoul city's accusation against Heerim related to the reconstruction maintenance project of Apgujeong District 3 △arranging the order of public institution outsourcing projects for Heerim. In response, Mr. Jeon demanded compensation, saying, "Do you make requests for free? I do what you want, but you do nothing for me," and received 43.29 million won worth of money and goods, including using the corporate card of A's travel agency.
It was also revealed that Mr. Jeon's family was involved in relation to Conlab Company. B, the representative of Conlab Company, was introduced to Mr. Jeon's daughter and acquaintance during the 'Line Holiday in Busan' event in July 2022. Mr. Jeon's daughter proposed to B, "I will check whether it is possible to invite influential figures or high-ranking officials, including Mrs. Kim, to the opening ceremony through my father." Mr. Jeon promised B the attendance of high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism instead, saying, "Mrs. Kim cannot attend." In fact, high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Deputy Mayor of Busan attended the event, and congratulatory messages from Representative Kwon and Representative Yoon were delivered.
Furthermore, circumstances were captured where Mr. Jeon moved for the business rights of the character 'Moomin' owned by Conlab Company. Mr. Jeon suggested to B, "There is a project to change Baegun Lake in Uiwang City, check it out," and introduced Kim Seong-je, the mayor of Uiwang City. Subsequently, Mr. Jeon acted as a mediator in the process of coordinating opinions between the two sides. Later, Uiwang City announced the establishment of 'Uiwang Moomin Valley' using the 'Moomin' character at Baegun Lake. During this process, Mr. Jeon demanded 4 million won per month for his daughter and 8 million won per month for his vehicle and driver expenses, saying, "If we do this for you, what will you do for us?" B signed false service contracts with Mr. Jeon's daughter's acquaintance and Mr. Jeon's close associate and delivered money to Mr. Jeon monthly in the form of service fees. The special prosecutor concluded that Mr. Jeon received a total of 167.02 million won in this process.
