[Financial News] SK Hynix announced on the 11th that it will supply 'ZUFS (Zoned UFS) 4.1', a mobile NAND solution product that was mass-produced for the first time in the world, to its customers.
ZUFS is a product that applies Zoned Storage technology, which stores data in different spaces (Zones) according to its purpose and characteristics, to the high-speed flash memory storage device UFS.
The company emphasized, "As this product is mounted on the latest smartphones of global customers, we can once again prove the excellence of our technology in the global market," and "We will provide users with an innovative experience by supporting the powerful on-device AI implementation capability of smartphones."
SK Hynix successfully completed the certification process for this product in June of this year through close collaboration with customers. Based on this, mass production began in earnest in July, and supply started.
When this product is mounted on a smartphone, the operating system (OS) operation speed is improved, and data management efficiency is enhanced. As a result, the read performance degradation phenomenon during long-term use is alleviated by more than 4 times, reducing app execution time by 45% compared to existing UFS. Unlike UFS, which stores new data by overwriting existing data, this product is designed to record sequentially, reducing AI application (app) execution time by 47%.
These performance characteristics are the background for this product being evaluated as an optimized solution for the current mobile environment, where on-device AI and large data processing are key.
In addition, the company significantly strengthened the error handling capability of this product compared to the 4.0 version developed in May last year. By more precisely detecting errors and clearly communicating necessary actions to the central control unit, the system's reliability and recovery capability are expected to be greatly enhanced.
Kim Juseon, President of AI Infrastructure (CMO) at SK Hynix, said, "ZUFS 4.1, which we have successfully started supplying this time, is the first case of development and mass production through collaboration to optimize the Android operating system and storage device, and its scope of application will expand," and "We will continue to supply NAND solutions required by customers in a timely manner, while continuously strengthening partnerships with global companies to build differentiated competitiveness in the AI memory field."
