[Financial News] A man in his 30s who caused 15 casualties by setting fire to a multi-family house in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun District, Seoul, has been indicted while in custody.
Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Yoo Jeong-hyeon) announced on the 10th that the suspect, referred to as A, was indicted on charges of arson resulting in death and injury.
According to the prosecution, A is accused of setting fire to waste paper piled on a cart in the parking lot of a multi-family house in Jegi-dong on the afternoon of the 12th of last month, a charge of arson resulting in death and injury.
The fire resulted in 2 deaths and 13 injuries. The parking lot and corridors of the building were burned, causing property damage exceeding 100 million won.
From the early stages of detention, the prosecution collaborated with the police and fire departments to secure closed-circuit (CC) TV footage and photos of the fire scene, and through video analysis and psychological and physiological tests, concluded that A set fire to the cart of a resident with whom there was frequent conflict.
The prosecution, in connection with the Victim Support Center, provided emergency living expenses and medical expenses totaling 5,059,630 won to 4 victims and is proceeding with additional support procedures.
