[Financial News] The police have forwarded Kim Se-ui, the head of Garosero Research Institute, to the prosecution after a reinvestigation for producing and distributing past private life-related videos of 'mukbang' YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jeong-won).
Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced on the 9th that they have forwarded Kim without detention on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation), threats, coercion, and violating the Stalking Punishment Act. However, the charge of leaking business secrets was dismissed as not guilty.
Previously, Garosero Research Institute released a recording last July claiming that "Tzuyang was threatened by YouTuber Gu Jeyuk." The recording contained content that Tzuyang was threatened based on the fact that she worked at an entertainment establishment in the past. Tzuyang explained that she was forced to work at the entertainment establishment due to assault and coercion by her ex-boyfriend, but Garosero continued to broadcast denying this.
Tzuyang filed a complaint against Kim, stating "I had no choice but to shoot an additional explanation video because my private life was disclosed without consent," but Gangnam Police Station decided not to forward the case last February due to insufficient evidence. At that time, the police stated, "If Kim's broadcasting act is judged illegal, there could be a controversy over the suppression of freedom of expression."
Subsequently, Tzuyang's side filed an objection with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and the prosecution directed a supplementary investigation, leading to the case being re-investigated. Gangnam Police Station reassigned the case to another investigation team for further investigation. The police stated, "It is difficult to disclose specifically what evidence or circumstances were secured during the forwarding process."
