【Financial News Jeonju=Kang In Reporter】 Record-breaking heavy rain caused damage in various parts of Jeonbuk.
According to Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province on the 8th, heavy rain poured down in the western areas of the province, including 296.4mm in Gunsan and 239.3mm in Iksan, from the 6th to the 7th. As a result, flooding of stores and houses, road damage, and water pipe bursts are being confirmed.
As of the morning, damage reported includes 3 cases of road slope loss (2 in Gunsan, 1 in Wanju), 10 cases of road damage (4 in Gunsan, 6 in Jeonju), 1 case of river embankment loss (Wanju), communication disruption (5 towns in Gimje), 9 power outages (4 in Gunsan, 5 in Gimje), 90 stores flooded (70 in Gunsan, 15 in Iksan, 5 in Gimje), and 90 houses flooded (23 in Jeonju, 27 in Gunsan, 31 in Iksan, 9 in Gimje).
There was also damage to crops. The damage scale is estimated to be 4,291ha, including 3,266ha of rice, 799.1ha of soybeans, 20ha of green onions, 102ha of lettuce, 25.1ha of tomatoes, and 12.3ha of strawberries across 9 cities and counties.
In 5 cities and counties, including Jeonju, Gunsan, Iksan, Gimje, and Wanju, 121 residents (79 households) evacuated, and 3 residents (3 households) in 2 cities and counties have not yet returned home.
Jeonbuk Province is working hard on recovery while assessing the damage situation.
A Jeonbuk Province official said, "We are currently promoting emergency recovery through the dispatch of on-site situation managers and the operation of drainage pump stations," and "We plan to establish a formal recovery plan after compiling the damage status through on-site investigations by city and county."
