Knife over 20cm in length also found
Seoul Western Police Station announced on the 8th that they have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A (in his 30s) on charges of arson of an inhabited building.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of spraying flammable material and setting fire to the front door of his half-sister Ms. B's (in her 40s) residence located in Sinsa-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, around 1:30 a.m. on the 7th.
The fire scorched the front door and burned the door lock, but no damage occurred as another resident was inside the house at the time. The fire was extinguished before the fire department arrived, and no resident evacuation was carried out.
The police found a knife over 20cm long that Mr. A had brought at the scene. A representative from the Western Police Station stated, "It is true that a knife was found," adding, "However, further investigation is needed regarding the purpose of possession."
The police are currently investigating Mr. A on charges of arson of an inhabited building and plan to consider applying other charges depending on the investigation results. The motive for the crime has not yet been confirmed.
