[Financial News] Former President Yoon Seok-yeol, accused of being the leader of an insurrection, has been absent from the trial for the 8th consecutive time.
Former President Yoon was again absent from the trial on the charges of being the leader of an insurrection and abuse of power, held on the 8th under the jurisdiction of the 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Gui-yeon).
The court decided to proceed with the trial in absentia without former President Yoon. The court explained, "The defendant voluntarily did not appear today as well," and "A report with the same content came from the prison, so we will proceed with the trial in absentia according to the Criminal Procedure Act."
Previously, the Seoul Detention Center, where former President Yoon is incarcerated, submitted a report to the court stating that "it is impossible to forcibly bring him" and "it is quite difficult."
According to the Criminal Procedure Act, if the defendant is absent without reason, the trial can continue in absentia. Former President Yoon, who is not attending, must bear the consequences arising during the trial process.
Since being re-arrested on July 10, former President Yoon has not only been absent from the trial but also has not complied with the special prosecutor's summons for investigation.
Meanwhile, Park Tae-joo, Director of Information Protection at the Defense Intelligence Command, and others are scheduled to testify at the trial today.
