According to the Ministry of National Defense, this year's event, held in the afternoon of the 8th, is presided over by Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-baek, with ministers, vice-ministers, and representatives from 22 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Turkey, and Australia attending.
This event was organized to reflect on the significance of the UNC, established on July 24, 1950, shortly after the outbreak of the Korean War, to protect the freedom and peace of the Korean Peninsula, and to share the commitment to continue contributing to peace on the Korean Peninsula through solidarity with the international community.
Minister Ahn stated, "The Republic of Korea was able to achieve today's development from the ruins of war thanks to the noble sacrifice and dedication of the UNC and the 22 UN forces veterans," adding, "We will never forget the spirit of solidarity that united under one UN flag, and we will continue to safeguard peace with the international community."
During the ceremony, following Minister Ahn's welcoming speech, congratulatory remarks by Gilberto Teodoro, the Philippine Minister of National Defense, a keynote speech by Stephanie Beck, Deputy Minister of National Defense of Canada, and a response and congratulatory performance by Xavier Brunson, Commander of the United Nations Command, are scheduled.
During the Korean War, 1,957,733 troops from 22 UN member countries participated to protect the freedom and democracy of the Republic of Korea. The courage and achievements of the veterans have made today's Republic of Korea possible.
