[Financial News] LG Electronics will supply cooling solutions to a US artificial intelligence (AI) data center project.
CEO Jo Juwan of LG Electronics announced on the 4th through his social networking service (SNS) that "we recently won a large-scale data center project in the US" and "by supplying chillers with advanced pre-cooling functions, we have proven LG Electronics' technological competitiveness and ability to meet the stringent requirements of global AI infrastructure."
This is the first official announcement by LG Electronics regarding the AI data center order in the US. The supply scale of LG Electronics is known to be in the hundreds of billions of won. CEO Jo stated, "The rapid expansion of AI is accelerating the demand for core infrastructure such as data centers and semiconductor equipment," and "these fields are essential elements for AI performance, scalability, and sustainability." He emphasized, "LG Electronics is capturing new opportunities in two areas: data center cooling solutions and next-generation semiconductor equipment."
According to global consulting firm McKinsey, global data center demand is expected to increase by 22% annually until 2030, reaching 171 gigawatts (GW), three times the current level. Additionally, a supply of 15GW of data center capacity is expected to be needed in the US alone.
Currently, LG Electronics is also expanding its HVAC business in the global south region. It supplies cooling solutions such as chillers to an 800 megawatt (MW) AI data center under construction in the Middle East. Last month, it announced that it would supply cooling solutions to the data center promoted by 'LG Sinar Mas Technology Solution', a joint venture established by LG CNS and Indonesia's Sinar Mas Group.
