[Financial News] It has been confirmed that an Army captain who was found dead with a gunshot wound at Suseong Lake in Daegu left a will complaining of harassment and abuse, and the police are expected to investigate.
According to the Gyeongbuk Police Agency on the 4th, regarding the death of an Army captain at Suseong Lake on the 2nd, the military police are initially confirming the basic facts, and once the procedure is completed and transferred to the police, the criminal task force plans to take over the case and start a formal investigation.
Under current law, military police are required to promptly transfer cases to the police if circumstances such as abuse or sexual crimes are confirmed in the event of a soldier's death.
A representative of the investigative agency stated, "Although an internal military investigation is ongoing, if criminal suspicions related to the cause of death are revealed, a police investigation is inevitable," adding, "The issue of gun removal is not within the scope of the police investigation."
On the morning of the 2nd, Army Captain A, belonging to a directly controlled unit, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head near the restroom on the Suseong Lake promenade in Suseong-gu, Daegu.
At the scene, there was a K2 rifle used for military training and a will.
The investigative agency identified that Captain A wrote the will in three parts, addressing the military authorities, parents, and journalists.
In particular, the part addressed to journalists mainly contained complaints about workplace harassment and abuse, and the previously known 'first promotion failure' in July was difficult to see as a direct cause of death according to the will, explained the investigative agency representative.
The police plan to comprehensively investigate the circumstances of abuse and harassment based on the contents of the will once the case is transferred.
A representative of the Gyeongbuk Police Agency stated, "It will take several days for the case to be transferred to the police," adding, "Once notified, we will immediately start the investigation."
