[Financial News] In the aircraft maintenance qualification exam, false experience input and fraudulent passing requests were detected, resulting in suspended sentences for three people, including a corporation employee and external evaluation committee members.
According to the legal community on the 3rd, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 6 (Judge Kim Jinseong) sentenced defendant A (52), who was indicted on charges of obstruction of business, falsification of electronic records, and exercise of falsified electronic records, to 1 year in prison with a 3-year suspended sentence. B (37), who assisted in manipulating the test list, was also sentenced to 1 year in prison with a 3-year suspended sentence, and evaluation committee member C (48), who gave a pass judgment on the oral exam, was sentenced to 6 months in prison with a 1-year suspended sentence.
According to the court, the three conspired to interfere with the work of granting aircraft maintenance qualifications.
A, who works at the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, did not meet the maintenance practical work exemption criteria of 5 years of maintenance experience in the process of applying for the aircraft maintenance type-limited qualification exam, but entered false experience in the corporation's computer network between 2021 and 2022 to be exempted from the practical work test. He also attempted to be processed as passed without taking the oral exam conducted in June 2023. He called C, an external evaluation committee member, before the test to make a request and also asked B, the person in charge of the test, to remove his name from the list.
As a result, B delivered the data with A's name removed from the actual test list to the person in charge, and C judged A as 'passed' in the oral exam despite not taking it and entered it into the computer system.
Their crime was revealed due to inconsistencies in the test process. The person in charge, who took over B's duties while on vacation, confirmed that the number of examinees and passers did not match. A later corrected his judgment result from pass to absence.
The court pointed out, "The crime is of very poor quality as it undermined the fairness of the test directly related to aviation safety."
However, it explained the background of the suspended sentence, saying, "Considering that A and B are first-time offenders and corrected some of the results after the crime was discovered." C had a previous record of a suspended sentence for bid obstruction, but the severity of the case and the degree of cooperation were considered.
