[Financial News] Choi Seok-yeong, advisor at Gwangjang Law Firm (former Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Geneva), has been appointed as the new head of the International Trade Research Institute within Gwangjang.
Gwangjang announced on the 3rd that Advisor Choi took office on the 1st. The new head Choi has been active as an advisor at Gwangjang and, prior to joining, served as a diplomat for 37 years, building a significant career in the field of international trade.
He has held key roles in Korea's trade diplomacy, including Ambassador to Geneva, Economic and Trade Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chair of the WTO Council for Trade in Services, Chief Negotiator for Free Trade Agreements (FTA), Doha Development Agenda (DDA) Negotiation Ambassador, and Secretary-General of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
The International Trade Research Institute at Gwangjang is a specialized research institution within the law firm, established to respond to changes in the global trade order and the formation of new trade norms.
With this appointment, the institute plans to strengthen systematic research and analysis on international trade policy and expand advisory services for companies and governments. It also aims to broaden its research network through hosting international seminars and collaborating with domestic and international research institutions.
Kim Sang-gon, representative lawyer at Gwangjang (Judicial Research and Training Institute 23rd class), said, "With the appointment of the new head Choi Seok-yeong, research and consulting to respond to changes in the global trade order will be further strengthened," adding, "We expect this to be an important opportunity for the International Trade Research Institute at Gwangjang to solidify its status as a specialized research institution within the law firm."
