On the 3rd, Homeplus notified employees that 5 of the 15 stores confirmed to close will shut down on November 16, followed by the remaining 10 stores in December. These are all stores that failed to reach an agreement on rent negotiations. The stores closing on November 16 are Suwon Woncheon, Daegu Dongchon, Busan Jangnim, Ulsan Buk-gu, and Incheon Gyeyang. The 10 stores closing within the year are Seoul Siheung, Gayang, Ilsan, Ansan Gojan, Hwaseong Dongtan, Cheonan Sinbang, Daejeon Munhwa, Jeonju Wansan, Busan Gamman, and Ulsan Nam-gu.
Homeplus explained that the annual operating loss of these 15 stores is 80 billion won, while the rent is 70 billion won, so they have no choice but to close them for successful corporate rehabilitation.
Homeplus is known to have told employees, "Due to the strengthening of transaction conditions such as the demand for advance payment of deposits by major trading partners and the shortening of settlement periods, additional capital demand of over 100 billion won, which did not occur before rehabilitation, has arisen, worsening liquidity."
In addition, to reduce operating costs, the operating hours of Homeplus stores nationwide will be advanced to 10 PM.
Meanwhile, the Homeplus Branch of the Mart Union also held a 108-bow event in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office in Seoul this morning, urging a meeting with President Lee Jaemyung and a government-led merger and acquisition (M&A). The union claimed, "The M&A led by MBK Partners has effectively failed, as no acquisition candidates were found by last month," and "If the rehabilitation process is converted to liquidation, it will impact the local economy."
