Creative tasks like writers and designers replaced by AI... Dissatisfaction with sloppy work

NBC, freelance job market data... Demand for creative jobs increases
[Financial News] In Spain, Lisa Karstens, who has been working as a freelance graphic designer for a long time, lost her job due to artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, however, she got a job thanks to AI. Clients asked Karstens to fix the sloppy parts of AI-generated images. The images Karstens received were actually 'not great'. They were filled with messy lines and meaningless text, and the pixels broke down when enlarged beyond a certain size.
Karstens said, "There are people who are realizing that AI is not perfect. Some people come to me because they are frustrated that AI cannot solve it on its own."
Contrary to the concern that AI will take away human jobs, an ironic situation is occurring where people are being hired to cover up AI's mistakes, reported NBC News on the 31st of last month (local time).
Creative tasks like writers and designers should be done by humans
NBC reported that when generative AI appeared in the world, experts predicted that AI would replace people in all industries. They particularly pointed out creative jobs as representative jobs threatened by AI and predicted that freelancers would be hit the hardest.
However, despite such concerns, some people have found new jobs thanks to AI's incompetence.
For example, writers received requests to refine ChatGPT's writing, and graphic designers were tasked with modifying oddly drawn AI images. Surprisingly, even software developers were tasked with fixing bugs in apps coded by AI assistants.
NBC also released the results of analyzing recent data provided by freelance job platforms like Upwork and Freelancer.
The data showed that this year, the demand for various types of creative work has surged, and clients are increasingly looking for people who can work with AI technology.
According to Upwork data, while AI is automating low-skilled repetitive tasks, the demand for jobs involving complex tasks like content strategy or creative art direction has increased. Fiverr also reported a 250% increase in demand for niche tasks like 'watercolor children's book illustration' and 'Shopify website design' in the fields of web design and book illustration over the past six months.
A report recently published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) also revealed research results showing that AI replaces more outsourcing personnel than regular employees.
Low-quality work created by AI... Limitations in modification and supplementation
Freelancers who have started working because of AI unanimously said that fixing AI errors is not an ideal job. Although the salary helps to make a living, it is not satisfactory, and the job satisfaction is also low.
Karstens said, "Some AI images sent by clients were excellent enough with just a few modifications, but sometimes I had to redraw from scratch to provide high-quality results. It sometimes took more time than conceptualizing and drawing the design myself," she lamented.
Keisha Richardson, a freelance writer who recently edits articles generated by AI, said, "All I can do is learn and adapt. Some colleagues insist on not working with AI, but I have to do it because I need the money," while also evaluating that "AI-generated articles are 'not human-like at all'."
