Home AI companion robots provide three major services that can enhance the quality of life for small households centered around one person or couples. △Acting as a companion for emotional interaction through conversation △Acting as a butler for call response, IoT device voice control, and emergency situation guardian notification △Performing dedicated nurse roles such as medication reminders and checks, wearable device-linked chronic disease management, and cognitive ability enhancement.
Samsung C&T has prepared this demonstration to help seniors with emotional interaction and health management in the aging era and to improve their quality of life.
This demonstration, selected for the '2025 Service Robot Demonstration Project' hosted by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, is conducted by a consortium of Samsung C&T, Samsung Noble County, and Robocare.
Seniors living in the Raemian apartments constructed by Samsung C&T and in Samsung Noble County, a representative silver town in Korea, will directly use robots in a real residential environment.
For this demonstration, a total of 40 home AI companion robots will be distributed to 20 households of seniors living in Samsung Noble County and 20 households of AIP seniors living in Raemian One Bailey and Raemian One Pentas. From September to December, the robots will be used in real-life environments for about 15 weeks to contribute to identifying the usefulness and improvement points of the robots.
The home AI companion robot operates based on voice recognition, and detailed settings such as medication reminders are possible through a connected tablet. Conversations are possible through the microphone and speaker mounted on the body, and the vision sensor on the robot's face, which can adjust a 15-degree angle, recognizes the user's situation. The robot's size is approximately 30cm in height, 21cm in width, 20cm in length, and weighs about 4kg, with a 5-inch screen for eye emotion expression to facilitate emotional exchange during conversations. Mapping allows the robot to accurately recognize the structure of the household, and it can navigate by recognizing and avoiding obstacles through the front camera. It also matches the average walking speed of seniors, which is about 0.6~1.0m per second, with a movement speed of about 0.5m per second.
Samsung C&T is pursuing a robot solution business, aiming for the commercialization of various robot services in preparation for the robot era, such as launching door-to-door indoor and outdoor delivery robot services last year. Through this demonstration, Samsung C&T plans to provide customized residential services for seniors that synergize with existing businesses and establish itself as a leading company in the space-linked robot business.
Cho Hye-jung, Head of DxP Division (Vice President) at Samsung C&T, emphasized, "As a space creator, we have been contemplating what services are essential in the aging era," and added, "Through this demonstration, we will help seniors enjoy a new daily life in their living spaces."
Moon Jeon-il, CEO of Robocare, stated, "The home AI companion robot provides emotional companionship through customized care services, ensures safety, and offers services such as health prevention and management," and added, "Through this demonstration, we will reflect on the advancement of products and services, diversify customer experiences, and strive to enhance the quality of life."
Established in 2001, Samsung Noble County is the first silver town in Korea and is also operating the first brain fitness center for dementia prevention in Korea. In 2024, it also participated in the regulatory innovation robot demonstration project by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement.
Park Sung-hyun, CEO of Samsung Noble County, stated, "Under the slogan of Smart Noble, Samsung Noble County aims to realize innovative care services based on technology and newly establish the standard for future senior lifestyles in a super-aged society," and added, "Through this demonstration, we hope to secure data necessary for the development of next-generation senior care services and advance sustainable senior housing models."
