[Financial News] Kim Ju-ae, the daughter of Kim Jong-un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, has been appointed as the first female supreme leader of North Korea's 4th generation hereditary dynasty following Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il, and Kim Jong-un.
Chairman Kim's attendance at the 80th anniversary parade of Victory Day in Beijing, China on the 3rd with his daughter Kim Ju-ae has led to such evaluations from North Korea experts.
When Chairman Kim, who appeared on the multilateral diplomatic stage for the first time, was greeted by high-ranking Chinese officials such as Foreign Minister Wang Yi at Beijing Station on the 2nd, Kim Ju-ae was right behind Chairman Kim. This is tantamount to declaring Kim Ju-ae as North Korea's second-in-command to the outside world.
Accordingly, it is expected that Kim Ju-ae's 4th generation hereditary succession will be formalized at the North Korean Party Congress in January next year. However, it is expected to take another 7-8 years for Kim Ju-ae, who is only 12 years old, to receive an official title.
Yang Moo-jin, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies, evaluated, "As the last process of the successor appointment gateway, she accompanied the Victory Day event of a brother country for the last time and made her debut to the brother country."
Furthermore, Professor Yang predicted that the confirmation of the successor appointment is expected at the 9th Party Congress in January next year. However, Professor Yang evaluated that Kim Ju-ae's successor appointment has a negative impact on inter-Korean relations in the short term. It is because Kim Ju-ae has only experienced confrontation and conflict such as the constitutionalization of nuclear-armed state and hostile state relations pursued by her father Chairman Kim, the new Cold War structure of South Korea-US-Japan vs. North Korea-China-Russia, and learning about Russian troop dispatch.
The public disclosure of the family of the supreme leader in the North Korean regime is not a coincidence but a thoroughly calculated move, and there is also an evaluation that accompanying the Victory Day is virtually a debut as a successor.
Im Eul-chul, a professor at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University, evaluated, "Chairman Kim intends to present Kim Ju-ae as a future leader not only to Xi Jinping of China but also to the leadership of Vladimir Putin of Russia," adding, "It is a ploy to convey the message to recognize the 4th generation hereditary succession of the North Korean regime."
It is said that the pattern of securing recognition through visits to China or international events to firmly establish the successor status has been repeated.
Jeong Seong-jang, deputy director of the Sejong Institute, explained, "Kim Jong-un was appointed as a successor at the age of 8, but since Kim Jong-il did not give Kim Jong-un sufficient diplomatic training, he had to remain as the leader of an isolated country until he held the inter-Korean, North Korea-China, and North Korea-US summits in 2018." It is said that Kim Jong-un did not want to pass on his unfortunate experience to Kim Ju-ae. rainman@fnnews.com Kim Kyung-soo reporter
