According to market research firm TrendForce on the 2nd, global DRAM market sales in the second quarter of this year were $31.63 billion, up 17.1% from the previous quarter. TrendForce analyzed that this was due to rising DRAM prices, increasing shipment trends, and growing demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
SK Hynix's second-quarter DRAM sales surged 25.8% from the previous quarter to $12.23 billion. Market share increased from 36% in the first quarter to 38.7%, up 2.7 percentage points. As a result, SK Hynix, which surpassed Samsung Electronics for the first time on a quarterly basis in the first quarter of this year, maintained its top position for the second consecutive quarter.
Samsung Electronics' second-quarter DRAM sales increased 13.7% from the previous quarter to $10.35 billion. Market share decreased from 33.7% to 32.7%, down 1 percentage point.
Despite an increase in shipments, Micron, ranked third, saw its second-quarter sales increase only 5.7% from the previous quarter to $6.95 billion due to a decline in average selling price (ASP). Market share fell from 24.3% to 22%, down 2.3 percentage points.
TrendForce explained, "Global DRAM prices have resumed their upward trend, driven by strong demand from PC and smartphone manufacturers and cloud service providers."
