[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor team (Min Jung-gi special prosecutor) has once again launched a forced investigation related to the suspicion of preferential treatment for changing the endpoint of the Yangpyeong Expressway.
The special prosecutor team announced that on the morning of the 2nd, they began a search and seizure of five locations, including the residence of Secretary Kim Mo of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the local land management office in Wonju, and official residences. Mr. Kim was the secretary in charge of the road policy department of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at the time of the Yangpyeong Expressway suspicion.
Mr. Kim is suspected of proposing and intervening in the route change process with Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation and Kyungdong Engineering, which were the contractors at the time, in the 'Yangpyeong Expressway endpoint change preferential treatment suspicion'. The suspicion is that in 2023, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport changed the endpoint of the existing Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway from Yangseo-myeon to Gangsang-myeon in Yangpyeong, where it was confirmed that the family real estate of Mrs. Kim Geon-hee is located, giving preferential treatment. The then Minister Won Hee-ryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport denied this, accelerating the controversy.
The special prosecutor team is speeding up the investigation into the 'Yangpyeong Expressway suspicion' with this search and seizure, following the summons of Mr. Kim on July 15 and last month on the 15th. As they have conducted searches and seizures of Donghae Comprehensive Technology Corporation, Kyungdong Engineering, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, it seems likely that the special prosecutor team will also conduct a summons investigation of former Minister Won, who is the link. However, it has been confirmed that no forced investigation has been conducted on former Minister Won in relation to this search and seizure.
