Investigation with Assistant over the Weekend
Yonhap News
[Financial News] The police have summoned independent lawmaker Lee Choon-seok again to question the source of stock funds in the account amid allegations of nominee stock trading.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Financial Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 2nd that they had recalled and investigated Representative Lee and his assistant Cha over the weekend.
The police recently focused on investigating the actual source of funds in the stock trading account of the two individuals. It has been confirmed that there were repeated deposits in the account of Mr. Cha in units of hundreds of thousands of won, and they are also looking into suspicions that political funds of Representative Lee might have been mixed in.
Representative Lee is suspected of trading stocks using an account in Mr. Cha's name at the National Assembly's main session last month.
At that time, while serving as the head of the Economic Division 2 of the National Planning Committee and handling AI policies, it was revealed that he traded AI-related stocks such as Naver and LG CNS, leading to allegations of violating the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act. He denies allegations of violating the Capital Market Act by using undisclosed information.
The police previously investigated an official from Representative Lee's office and seized PCs, documents, and hallway CCTV footage from the office, residence, and the National Assembly Secretariat. They are comparing the content of legislative activities and the timing of transactions, considering the nominee trading period and scale to be significant.
A police official said, "It is true that the suspects were recalled for investigation, but we cannot confirm specific details."
