[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the UN General Assembly on the 23rd.
Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 2nd, stating, "This year marks the significant 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN, and it is expected that the attention of the international community will be more focused than ever," she said.
President Lee plans to strengthen solidarity with the international community and engage in various diplomatic activities to enhance South Korea's status as a responsible global power through this meeting.
In particular, President Lee will share the process of overcoming and recovering from the crisis of democracy experienced by South Korea with the international community through his keynote speech at the UN General Assembly and present the government's vision and policies on major global issues, including the Korean Peninsula issue.
President Lee is also set to preside over an open debate of the Security Council as the first South Korean president to do so in the capacity of the Security Council chair. South Korea will serve as the chair of the Security Council for the month of September and plans to hold an open debate on September 24 on the topic of artificial intelligence and international peace and security.
Spokesperson Kang explained, "President Lee's attendance at this 80th UN General Assembly is expected to confirm South Korea's position as a trusted partner and further strengthen South Korea's leadership on the global multilateral diplomatic stage."
