'Trial of Trust and Acceptance' Mentioned, "Need to Gather Wisdom of Secretariat and Research Department"
Chief Secretary Son mentioned the keynote of "a trial of trust and acceptance, sharing the meaning of the Constitution with the people" set by Chief Justice Kim Sang-hwan, who took office last July, during the inauguration ceremony held on the 1st at the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and stated, "I will ensure that the Secretariat and Research Department gather wisdom together."
Chief Secretary Son stated, "The Constitution functions as a value and order that integrates the political community," and added, "The mechanism to realize this is constitutional adjudication." He further emphasized that the power of constitutional adjudication comes from the supporting Research Department and Secretariat, stating, "Soon, our dedication and efforts will create a higher level of constitutional adjudication, and through this, the Constitution of the Republic of Korea will fulfill its role as a focal point integrating our political community."
He also reflected on the 37-year journey of the Constitutional Court, stating, "Today's high expectations and trust of the people towards the Constitutional Court, as well as the voluntary and active respect for the Constitutional Court's decisions by state institutions, are all results of the noble sacrifice and efforts of the Constitutional Court members."
Chief Secretary Son was appointed as the Chief Secretary of the Constitutional Court (equivalent to a Cabinet Minister) on this day. The Chief Secretary of the Constitutional Court oversees the administrative affairs of the Constitutional Court under the direction of the Chief Justice.
Chief Secretary Son graduated from the Law Department of Yonsei University and passed the 38th Judicial Examination. He began his public service as an Assistant Constitutional Research Officer at the Constitutional Court in 1999, and has served as a Constitutional Research Officer, Chief of Staff to the Chief Justice, Director of the Constitutional Research Institute, and Head of the Research Professor Department's System Research Team, before retiring in March 2016 and serving as a professor at Yonsei University Law School.
