[Financial News] Former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was put on trial for charges of being the 'leader of rebellion (ringleader)', did not appear in court again.
Former President Yoon did not attend the 15th trial of the 'leader of rebellion' case held by the Criminal Agreement Division 25 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Gui-yeon) on the 1st. As a result, the trial is proceeding in absentia.
The court emphasized it as a 'voluntary absence'. The court stated, "The defendant voluntarily did not attend today as well," and "The prison warden previously responded that 'it is impossible to bring him in', and since there is no change in this situation, today's trial will also proceed in absentia."
Previously, the Seoul Detention Center, where former President Yoon is imprisoned, submitted a report to the court stating that "it is impossible to bring him in" and that "it is quite difficult" regarding the forced bringing of former President Yoon.
According to the Criminal Procedure Act, if the defendant is absent without reason, the trial can continue in absentia. Former President Yoon, who is not attending, must bear the consequences arising during the trial process.
Since being re-arrested on July 10, former President Yoon has not only been absent from the trial but also has not responded to the special prosecutor team's summons for investigation.
Meanwhile, at today's trial, Park Tae-joo, head of the Information Protection Division of the Military Counterintelligence Command, is expected to testify as a witness.
