After being refused funds for a cafe, she spread false information... Court says "Reputation cannot be restored"
[Financial News] A case where a father, who supported his daughter's studies abroad for a lifetime, was framed as a rapist has concluded in court. The daughter spread false information after being refused financial support for running a cafe and was eventually sentenced to prison.
On the 1st, according to the Uijeongbu District Court Namyangju Branch Criminal Division 1, the court sentenced a 37-year-old woman, Ms. A, to 10 months in prison on charges of defamation, obstruction of business, and insult.
Ms. A posted "I was sexually assaulted by my biological father since childhood" 11 times on an online community from May to June last year, and disclosed information about her father Mr. B's business, causing operational disruptions. She also slandered Mr. B's remarried wife Ms. C as being in an adulterous relationship and distributed photos six times.
However, the court completely denied this, stating, "No circumstances or evidence of the sexual assault claimed by the defendant were presented." It was confirmed that Ms. A lost a damages lawsuit she filed against Mr. B in 2021 at the Incheon District Court, as she failed to prove any illegal act.
The court judged that Ms. A, who received financial support from her father while studying in China and the United States, started the false accusations after her request for cafe funds was refused upon returning to Korea.
Chief Judge Choi Chibong stated, "The defendant severely damaged the victims' reputation by maliciously posting false information when her monetary demands were not met," adding, "Irreparable damage has already occurred, and the risk of reoffending is high, making a prison sentence inevitable."
