[Financial News] The embezzlement and breach of trust case of former Ourhome Vice Chairman Koo Bon-sung (68) will receive a final judgment from the Supreme Court.
According to the legal community on the 31st, the former vice chairman's side submitted an appeal to the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Yoon Sung-sik) on the 29th.
Previously, the former vice chairman was sentenced to three years in prison with a four-year probation in the appellate court for charges including embezzlement and breach of trust under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. The sentence was increased from the first trial's two years in prison with a three-year probation.
In the first trial, the former vice chairman was acquitted of charges of causing damage to the company by unjustly receiving management performance bonuses and purchasing golf club memberships in his personal name, but the second trial found him guilty of all charges.
The former vice chairman was indicted without detention last September for converting company-purchased gift certificates into cash for personal use and collecting excessive performance bonuses despite management difficulties due to COVID-19 while serving as CEO from July 2017 to 2021.
He was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year probation for damaging the other car and hitting the driver who got out of the car in a retaliatory driving incident in June 2021, and stepped down from the management front line.
Ourhome, founded by the late LG Chairman Koo Ja-hak, was initially owned by the 'owner family' siblings, but a management dispute arose between the eldest son Koo Bon-sung, the eldest daughter Koo Mi-hyun, the second daughter Koo Myung-jin, and the youngest Koo Ji-eun, leading to the transfer of shares to Hanwha Group by Koo Bon-sung and others who were in conflict with Koo Ji-eun, who took over management.
