SK Telecom recently announced on the 31st that it has signed an integrated procurement contract for machinery, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) equipment with Schneider Electric, a global AI data center (AI DC) solutions company, to build the 'SK AI Data Center Ulsan' and expand the scope of strategic cooperation between the two companies.
The two companies have already formed a partnership at MWC25 last March and have been exploring specific cooperation plans in various fields by forming a working group. This contract is the first result, and Schneider's MEP equipment in five areas, including switchboards, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), transformers, and automatic control, will be integrated into the 'SK AI Data Center Ulsan'.
Additionally, this contract includes combining Schneider's power design, analysis, and operation (ETAP) solution with SKT's integrated AI data center infrastructure management system (DCIM) to promote optimization based on digital twins. Through this, the two companies plan to maximize data center operational efficiency and enhance the functionality of the SKT AI DCIM solution.
In addition, SKT and Schneider signed an additional MOU to expand cooperation across the group. This MOU includes △ collaboration on developing Schneider's UPS and energy storage systems (ESS) using SK On's lithium-ion batteries △ expanding cooperation based on the MEP equipment demand of the entire SK Group.
In addition, through the existing cooperation agreement, they plan to strengthen cooperation and create results in △ linking and commercializing SKT's integrated AI DCIM and Schneider's automatic control system △ deriving MEP reference designs and jointly performing data center design and construction services △ jointly designing prefab integrated solutions for groundbreaking air shortening △ joint sales to expand the energy subscription business (EaaS).
Pankaj Sharma, Executive Vice President of Schneider Electric Secure Power and Services, who attended the contract signing and cooperation expansion MOU signing ceremony, said, "This cooperation will serve as an opportunity to present a new standard for AI data centers by combining the technology and know-how of both companies," adding, "Schneider Electric will continue to create a sustainable and efficient next-generation data center ecosystem through close cooperation with SKT."
Yoo Young-sang, SKT CEO, said, "This contract signing and strategic cooperation expansion is an extension of SKT's 'self-reliance and cooperation' AI pyramid strategy," adding, "It is expected to contribute not only to the construction of the Guro AI DC and the gigawatt (GW) expansion of the Ulsan AI DC but also to expand cooperation as an SK Group member company to create the best synergy."
