[Financial News] A call for host cities for the 2026 UNFCCC Climate Week to be held domestically will be conducted from September 1 to 15.
According to the Ministry of Environment on the 31st, the UNFCCC Climate Week is an international event where governments, international organizations, businesses, and civil society from around the world gather to discuss global climate crisis responses and accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
It consists of thematic events on promoting the implementation of each country's 'Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC)', climate change adaptation, climate finance, carbon markets, and a just transition, as well as high-level events to promote practical climate action.
The Ministry of Environment plans to pursue the hosting of the Climate Week in the first half of 2026 in the Asia region, together with the region selected through this call process. Through this, they plan to share Korea's commitment to carbon neutrality and the transition to a decarbonized green civilization with the international community and to create an opportunity to lead international climate and environmental discussions.
The Ministry of Environment will comprehensively evaluate the event infrastructure, transportation accessibility, community participation plans, and sustainability elements to finalize the host city.
Jeong Eun-hae, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Environment, stated, "The UNFCCC Climate Week is an important opportunity to promote global climate action, and we hope many local governments will show interest and participate in a journey that involves both the region and its residents," adding, "The Ministry of Environment will strive to ensure that our country emerges as a central stage for international climate and environmental discussions through this opportunity."
