[Financial News] Chris Barman, CEO of US electric vehicle startup Slate, stated that "SK On is a partner with a very well established position in the industry, with a factory in Georgia, USA, supplying batteries to various automakers."
According to industry and foreign news on the 30th, Barman CEO revealed this during the first unveiling of the Indiana production plant in the US on the 28th (local time). It was reported that Robert Schnell, head of the North American region, attended from SK On.
Barman CEO explained that the batteries produced at the SK On standalone factory in Georgia are expected to be installed in Slate's electric pickup trucks scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of next year.
Slate and SK On signed a battery supply contract worth about 4 trillion won last April. From next year, a total of 20GWh (gigawatt-hour) of batteries will be supplied over six years, and the supply volume can be expanded according to vehicle production.
SK On made a preemptive investment in the US in 2019 to build SK Battery America (SKBA), and began mass production of batteries in 2022, establishing a stable production system. It is reported that the operation rate of the SKBA standalone factory is currently close to 100%.
Slate disclosed the status of converting a printing plant site of about 130,000㎡ into an electric vehicle production facility, introducing future mass production schedules and operational plans. The company announced plans to launch a low-cost electric truck last April.
