According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on August 31, the number of motorcycle traffic accidents in Seoul in July was 303, a 25.2% increase from the same month last year (242 cases). This is also a 20% increase compared to the previous June (253 cases).
During the same period, motorcycle traffic violations increased by 3.4% from 25,213 cases to 26,065 cases.
To respond to the increasing motorcycle traffic accidents, Seoul police will conduct preventive activities throughout September.
First, the Seoul Police Motorcycle Patrol and Traffic Task Force will be intensively deployed in accident-prone areas to strengthen patrols.
Throughout Seoul, intensive motorcycle crackdowns will be conducted twice a week. The targets of the crackdown include △ drunk driving △ not wearing helmets △ sidewalk driving △ pedestrian crossing violations △ reckless driving, etc.
For noisy and reckless motorcycles causing disturbances at night, joint crackdowns will be conducted in cooperation with relevant agencies.
Seoul police plan to conduct crackdown activities mainly in 150 locations where motorcycle traffic accidents frequently occur.
The locations will be disclosed on the websites of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and each police station to encourage drivers to voluntarily comply with regulations.
A representative of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency emphasized, "Motorcycles expose the driver's body directly, leading to serious injuries or fatalities in the event of an accident, so more attention should be paid to safety."
They added, "For the safety of the driver, please ensure to wear a helmet and strictly comply with traffic regulations when riding a motorcycle."
