[Financial News] CJ CheilJedang is targeting overseas markets through a B2B universal sauce based on 'Kimchi', a traditional Korean fermented food.
CJ CheilJedang announced on the 28th that from early next month, it will officially distribute the 'Universal Kimchi Cooking Sauce' to 12 countries, including Europe. It is a cooking sauce product that can be used to make various kimchi-flavored dishes such as kimchi fried rice and kimchi burrito.
The export countries include the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Brazil, Chile, Uzbekistan, and Guam. This sauce was strategically launched first for global B2B use. It will be incorporated into main and side dishes in local dining, catering, and hotels with high K-food experience rates as 'Authentic Korean Cuisine, Kimchi Dishes' based on traditional Korean food. There are also plans to launch global household products in the future.
Kimchi has started to be recognized in the global food ingredient market for its healthy taste through fermentation and its refreshing, tangy flavor, but it faced limitations in global popularization due to the inconvenience of fermentation, taste changes, distribution, and storage.
This sauce is evaluated to have solved the challenge of 'global popularization of kimchi dishes'. Its strengths are stable taste quality and versatility, with CJ's unique new fermentation technology applied.
By controlling the fermentation process and adding ingredients, it maintains the refreshing taste and flavor unique to well-fermented kimchi while keeping the taste quality consistent. It can also be distributed at room temperature for 18 months. This technology completed patent filing at the end of last month.
CJ CheilJedang established a global B2B specialized organization at the end of last year and is aggressively pursuing related businesses. In the first half of this year, it expanded the scope of its B2B business to overseas markets by introducing the dessert product choco churros, which was provided to McDonald's Korea, to McDonald's Hong Kong.
Additionally, it is proposing various Korean cuisine menus to European and Asian Korean restaurants, such as kimchi broth and kimchi bibim noodles using the 'Universal Kimchi Cooking Sauce', to Chinese mala soup franchise Yang Guo Fu and multinational food and beverage group Tongyi Group.
A CJ CheilJedang representative said, "The Universal Kimchi Cooking Sauce is attracting a lot of interest in the food ingredient markets of Europe, Japan, China, and there are export requests from regions like the Middle East where kimchi is not easily accessible due to climate conditions," adding, "We will lead the globalization of K-food by promoting various Korean flavors such as gochujang sauce and bulgogi sauce, which enhance convenience for global dining use."
